Chairman's Award Video Ideas that A/V have:FIRST POST=IMPORTANT WALL TEXT ALL SHOULD READ.
This is part of what's required of us to even win Regional Chairman’s Award, so it's just as important as the essay! D= And most of this is direct from the Chairman's Award Criteria, with some edits to make the point easier to understand.
MAIN POINT: It's got to explain what the team has done to be a Regional Chairman’s Award winning team. SRSLY.
And here's what it should have!
- A 16:9 (“widescreen aspect ratio”) Flash, Quicktime, or Windows Media file
- Not more than 3 minutes long
- Not more than 5 Meg <-- (WTH? D= I'll look into it later.)
- Include a clean mono or stereo audio track
- Free of copyright restrictions, including music.
Other required information to be included on the cover of the jewel case:
- Your team number (also include on the front of the DVD)
- Your team name (also include on the front of the DVD)
- The Regional competition you are entering
- Your corporate and university sponsors
- Permission for FIRST to use your video marketing & promotional material and/or live at FIRST events & competitions.
And here's the judging process at Regional/District Events.
By 10 a.m. on Friday mornings of Regional/District Competition a list of interview times (which will either be pre-assigned by the judges or available for self selection by the teams, at the option of the judges) for the submitting teams will be available at the Pit Admin station. Interviews will take place during the day on Friday. A panel of judges will review the Chairman’s Award entries at each Regional and will conduct on-site Chairman’s Award interviews with those teams who have entered a submission for that regional event.
Judges will select one winner for the Regional Chairman’s Award at each regional competition. Interviews are limited to ten (10) minutes with not more than three (3) team members (student or adult mentors). The team selects these representatives. During the first five (5) minutes of the interview, the team members give a presentation to the judges, and the judges will use the second five (5) minutes for their questions and answers.
!important!
-If the presentation requires special equipment, the team is responsible for bringing it to the interview, and the time required to set up the equipment will count as part of the team’s allotted 5 minutes.
-Teams are encouraged to bring copies of documentation, supporting their
submission, to leave with the judges. This documentation may include, but is not limited to:
- Letters of reference
- Newspaper and magazine articles
- Program Books
As part of the Chairman’s Award judging process, FIRST judges will also review the Executive Summary page AND the yearbook page for each of the submitting teams. Your team’s submission will be a key factor in the selection process, along with the judges’ own observations of the team at the competitions.

Re: Chairman's Award Video Ideas that A/V have:FIRST POST=IMPORTANT WALL TEXT ALL SHOULD READ.
And for those of us unable to read wall of texts, here's what A/V (Animation/Video) is going to do.
A) Make a 5 MEG(abyte), 16:9 widescreen ratio, 3 minute video of what we as a team have done to be a deserving FIRST robotics team to win the Chairman's Award.
B) Need you guys to display this as much as possible. My answer for this is that FIRST robotics has helped me build relationships over time, that we are full of gracious professionalism, spirit, and lots more. Pretty much standard stuff.
C) We need to have documentation of what we've done for the community, and we're going to need tons of that. Me, Kevin, and Matt aren't around all the time so anything you have that shows us doing community service or spreading robotics and the message of FIRST is appreciated!
D) Pictures and videos of the past robots and current robots in action.
E) INTERVIEW YOU GUYS LIKE CRAZY. Mainly vets, mentors and teachers, BUT IN THE MIDDLE OF JANUARY, I WILL THEN START INTERVIEWINGnooblets new members as well, to make us look better. : ) By then you guys should all have a deep cofound understanding of what FIRST is all about, and what the team means to you and the rest of us.
F) Have music made by the team itself and incorporate that into the video. We'll be different from the other teams. And I already have close connections to a teacher (who has no connection to robotics) but will let me use his equipment- yes, say hello to Macs, microphones, possible singing, recording and madness; all VERY CLOSE to the robotics room for free as long as we credit! This could even count for bringing robotics to other areas of the school! And the possible music made by the team might even be part of Sarah and Carissa's CD idea for robotics to distribute out to other teams, FREE OF CHARGE. (Legal stuffs, you know. Technically we "own" the music created with Garageband on the Macs, but the software is to credited to Apple, and we can't sell our music. That's pretty simple to follow!)
G)Have THREE people on the team represent and present when we must talk about the team and why we deserve it to the judges, all in FIVE minutes. The five minutes after that will be used by the judges to ask Q and A. (And if set-up of stuff is needed during then, that counts as part of the five minutes of speaking! D: )
and H) During the competition, we've also got to be on our best behavior and show off not only our well known spirit, but also our gracious professionalism and a special spark for the judges to consider us when they observe (for judging of who wins the Award)!

Re: Chairman's Award Video Ideas that A/V have:FIRST POST=IMPORTANT WALL TEXT ALL SHOULD READ.
This shiz isn't going to magically get done on one day! D=
We're going to need musicians for the music portion of it, people to handle the cameras WELL, cue card people,make-up artists Nevermind, some Clearasil, Neutrogena and Stridex never hurt anyone!, writers, and more to get this done in at least even 5 and 1/2 weeks! D8
ON ANOTHER NOTE HOWEVER...
These kinds of questions will be asked.
-Why did you join robotics?
-What is FIRST to you?
-How has FIRST impacted you?
-Who are you? This one should be that you are proud to be a FIRST robotics member! x)
